Girard for sale on eBay UK

Frank E. Wood (1919-1922) founded the company (also known as Girard Mfg. Co. 1922-1935 and The Toy Works, 1935-1975) in Girard, Pennsylvania. Famous for their spinning tops, skates, banks, trains, trucks and military vehicles.

In the late 1920s, Girard toys made Louis Marx a commission agent and for several years produced toys under the Marx brand label, along with its own line of steel autos, trucks, and trains, which were produced at Girard Motor Works.

Pre-war Girard Joy Line train

Marx and Girard toys are for all intents indistinguishable (a few of the Girard toys bore the slogan "Making Childhood's Hour Happier"). Girard declared bankruptcy in 1934, although toy production continued until 1975. Quaker Oats had bought out Marx's interest in Girard when they bought Marx's American and English toy division 1972.

Hi, I am looking for cast scientific models by Girard Models from Penfield, NY. Ones of single atoms, diatoms, nuclei, etc. that I saw in science lab in a college. Do you carry these or know info about sourcing? I have photos if that would help. Thanks. Karen
►reply: I can't find any info on this I'm afraid. But I think you're looking for another Girard company than this one.

I have a Girard Works, Transformer Power House. It has yellow/red building with black base all tin and has Girard Works name on it. I would like to know the age and history of this item and just some kind of value, if any. Thanks

We just acquired a wind-up railroad hand car tin toy that looks exactly like the ones I'm seeing all over the Internet as Girard's. The only difference is that it does NOT have the Girard logo on the men's pants.
►reply: You mean like this one? Not sure. Marx Toys bought Girard in 1934 so maybe this toy was made in that year or later. Or it was restored at some point and the new paint covered the logo.

I have a pool/billiards table that was made by C G Woods. It is a Modern Boy Metal Game. Made in 1923. Can you tell me anything else about this toy. Wish I could send you a picture. Very Good shape with all original pieces.
►reply: This antique Modern Boy toy pool table was manufactured
during 1918 and 1923 by the C.G. Wood Company. In 1924 the company changed its name to Girard Toys. On ebay there was one sold last november for only 13 USD and on Etsy for 88 USD. Seems that the value varies extremely: liveauctioneers.com.
