Diapet is the name of a line of mostly 1:40 scale die-cast toys, made by Yonezawa toys from Japan. This was after Yonezawa took over the Cherryca Phenix brand. Yonezawa is best known for making tin toys of particular accuracy in the scale of 1:24 to 1:18, but Diapet toys are smaller replicas. Their quality and realism made them very popular among children and collectors, but they have never made much of an impact in the USA. The word "pet" is the Japanese equivalent of "small" or "cute." Diapet toys continued being produced through the 1990s.
Other popular diecast brands to come out of Japan include: Micropet, Tomica, Asahi Model Pet, Collectoy, Miniature Pet and Cherryca Phenix. Of them, Tomica (from Tomy of Japan) is the best-known to American collectors.
