In 1952, Mehanotehnika, a Slovenian company for production and sale of metal and plastic products, was established. Its name derives from the name of the first puzzle toy which was entirely manufactured by the company. In the beginning the company didn't have its own place to make toys but by the end of 1953, the machinery and building were aquired and production started. The first Mehanotehnika items appeared in the shops.
A 5000 m2 production hall has been built in 1959, and the production has moved to Izola. Mehanotehnika appeared for the first time on the Nuerenberg Toy Fair.
In 1965 Mehanotehnika started a project with the Department of child and adolescent psychology of the University of Ljubljana named: "Good toy". Based on this collaboration, Mehanotehnika started to manufacture toys with pedagogical and psychological elements.
In 1971 plush toys production was moved to the site in Materija.
In 1990 the company decided to change its name to Mehano.
