Also called Tootsies. Famous for their miniature die-cast cars, trains, and planes. The company was founded in Chicago, Illinois, in the late 1890s by Charles O. and Samuel Dowst.

By the early 1920s the name 'tootsie' was being used but the brand name Tootsietoy (named after Dowst granddaughter, Toots) was introduced and registered as a trade mark in 1924 when Dowst started a line of doll furniture.

In 1926 Tootsietoy merged with Cosmo Mfg., acquired Strombeck-Becker toy line in 1961 and made a name change as Strombecker Corp.

Hi, I was given a pre-war Tootsietoy 5200 Motor Cars Set with box, insert and all but 2 cars and the airplane, last year. I would like to collect the 2 cars and the airplane that are missing, but I cannot find this set anywhere on line or on ebay. It is not the post-war 5200 set, but the pre-war set with "Dowst" emblazoned on the front of the box. Any ideas on how I can find a shot of the inside of the box so I can see what I have to collect? I really appreciate any help you can afford me, and thank you for all you do in helping Tootsietoy collectors
